The APP Certificate is designed for individuals who desire to further their development as professionals in the field of adolescent pregnancy prevention. The program requires 120 contact hours of coursework, including general content, human sexuality and program implementation courses, and a 20 contact hour capstone project.

The general content courses are designed to develop competencies in developing BDI logic models, utilizing the Characteristics of Effective Programs, understanding the fundamentals of science-based teen pregnancy and HIV prevention curricula, conducting program evaluation, and managing and sustaining successful adolescent pregnancy prevention programs.

The human sexuality education courses are designed to develop competencies in understanding the content of comprehensive sexuality education and addressing the needs of adolescents in various stages of development.

The program implementation courses are designed to develop competencies in successful implementation of various science based approaches, developing and adapting effective programs, and using evaluation to improve adolescent pregnancy prevention programs.

The remaining 42 contact hours of the certificate program will come from participation in elective courses (22 contact hours) and the successful completion of a capstone project (20 contact hours). CAPSTONE PROJECT

The Capstone Project is initiated after a candidate successfully completes the coursework requirement for the APP Certificate. Each candidate will work closely with a USC-ASPH faculty advisor to develop a project tailored to their professional needs. This project is an opportunity to apply the skills and competencies you have acquired during the APP Certificate Program to design, plan, and evaluate a teen pregnancy prevention program. This project will encompass the last 20 contact hours required to earn an Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Certificate.
